After four intensive years of development, the time has come: the first reusable Calopad heat plaster conquers the market! The market launch on 23 March 2021 was a historic moment for Calopad and the health of the population. After all, back pain and neck tension are common - and heat is one of the most popular therapy methods. A look at the history of Calopad and the heat therapy market makes it clear why the product launch of a reusable heat plaster as a sustainable therapy method for back pain was long overdue.

Heat therapy - a proven healing method for centuries

For centuries, patients have relied on heat to relieve back pain and neck tension. Until now, the solution has been disposable heat plasters. The warming companions are undisputedly beneficial. But are they also effective and sustainable in the long term? While some heat plasters generate heat through a chemical reaction, others heat up by irritating the skin. Although both variants generate a pleasant warmth, they only have a superficial effect. This is why the pain relief usually only lasts for a short time. Back pain and neck tension cannot be relieved effectively and sustainably in this way. What's more, disposable heat plasters are very hard on the wallet in the long term.

Armed with these arguments and the therapeutic approach of heat therapy, the Calopad founding team set about developing an effective, sustainable medical product for back pain.

The Calopad founding team pursued these 8 goals

It was clear from the outset what the founders' core objectives were with this innovative medical product:

  • Effective and sustainable treatment of chronic back pain and neck tension with a therapeutic deep heat of 42° degrees.

  • Selective therapy of individual pain regions using trigger point therapy

  • High wearing comfort and skin compatibility

  • Restoration of quality of life

  • Minimisation of consumables and reduction of medical costs as significant economic factors.

  • The combination of heat therapy and movement thanks to a heat patch with various forms of therapy and a free, independently usable Physio app.

  • A registered medical device based on many clinical studies.

Combined experience and ambition for a breakthrough in the heat therapy market

Achieving these goals required a clear view of the needs of back patients. It was easy for the Calopad team to grasp these needs. Firstly, because four out of seven Calopad team members struggle with chronic back pain themselves. Secondly, because the combined expertise and market experience of the five entrepreneurs multiplied:

  • Inventor and CEO Michael Breiter has been involved in the heat therapy market for over six years, knows the limitations of back pain and neck tension from his own experience and is passionate about innovative products that exceed the needs of the target group.

  • Head of Hardware, Patrick Degelo, has been working in the machine and medical industry for more than 19 years, developing needs-orientated, future-oriented medical products, among other things.

  • Head of Medical Affairs, Mirko Cortese has been working in the medical field for over 30 years. He owns a practice for complementary medicine and therapy. Accordingly, he is familiar with the various clinical pictures in the back and neck area and the appropriate forms of therapy.

The Calopad heat plaster: exciting facts about the development process

Using the Calopad heat plaster should not only provide people with lasting relief from back pain and neck tension. The centrepiece of the product strategy is to give back pain patients a part of their quality of life. Guided by this idea, the business plan for the Calopad heat plaster was developed in 2016. Four intensive years later, medical certification followed - and now, in spring 2021, the long-awaited market launch.

«Back patients should be able to benefit from all the added value of the heat plaster right from the start and we are happy to go the extra mile to achieve this.»

Michael Breiter, entrepreneur and inventor of the Calopad heat plaster

The Calopad controller was modified several times to ensure comprehensive and high-quality functionality. As the innovative heating plaster consists of a total of 180 individual parts, the production process was just as well thought out as the heating concept behind it.

With at least as many ideas as drive, the Calopad founding team started the development of Calopad in 2017 with the first prototype - a warming shirt.

Did you know that...

  • Calopad technology has already been presented at the world's largest medical trade fair in Dubai?

  • the brand name Calopad has Italian roots? Calo is derived from Calore - which means warmth in Italian.

  • over 12,000 hours of development went into Calopad?

  • the app and hardware contain over 30,000 lines of code?

  • the medical effect of Calopad has been clinically proven in numerous studies?

  • 14 experts were involved in the medical certification of Calopad and the process was successfully completed after 3 years and over 1,000 A4 pages?

  • the patent is registered in over 40 countries?
