Regeneration benefit thanks to deep heat
Professional boxer Freddy Kiwitt from Flensburg revolutionises his training with Calopad

Sport has been part of Freddy Kiwitt's life since he was a child. After having to give up football due to an injury, he took up boxing at the age of 18. Although this came very late in his boxing career, it didn't stop him. True to the motto "nothing is impossible", he turned professional after just four years and even became world super welterweight champion in November 2023.
In his experience report, the Flensburg native explains how Calopad's deep heat has positively supported him in his career as a professional boxer, how he incorporates it into his training routine and what tips he has for other professional athletes.
From Flensburg to England and Africa and back again for the world title
Freddy Kiwitt's boxing career began in England in 2013, where he made a successful debut. Despite initial delays in his success, he returned to Germany for fights in 2015 and 2016 and appeared on the supporting programme for well-known boxers.
In 2017, he won his first title with a knockout against Erick Ochieng and became Southern Area Welterweight Champion. In 2019, he won the WBO European title and the African welterweight title.
In 2022, he won the German super welterweight title at a local boxing event in Flensburg. In 2023, ten years after his professional debut, he also secured the World Boxing Federation super welterweight title in his home town. He is currently preparing for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Important muscle regeneration: how Freddy Kiwitt uses heat and cold to maximise recovery
In his search for an effective way to speed up recovery, Freddy Kiwitt from Flensburg came across the innovative deep warming device from Calopad on social media and was immediately impressed. He only realised the relevance of comprehensive muscle regeneration later in his career - so he now organises it all the more carefully and consciously, relying on the positive effect of heat and cold therapy.
Freddy, you train for several hours a day. How do you manage to recover after a hard day's training?
In boxing, we work a lot with heat and cold so that I can recover more quickly and injuries can be avoided. The interaction improves blood circulation and activates the circulatory system, which makes regeneration more effective.
How do you use the Calopad device in your daily routine?
After hard training days, when certain muscles are really sore or irritated, I apply the Calopad to the relevant parts of my body. I also use it on rest days to prevent sore muscles or relieve pain.
Are there certain areas or injuries where you have found that heat therapy with the Calopad is particularly helpful?
I feel a clear positive change after using it, especially on my lower back. My physiotherapist recommended that I use the Calopad directly after the treatments and this combination is very effective.
Do you think you can gain a competitive advantage by using deep heat?
The recovery phase is definitely shorter. This means I can give 100% effort in training the next day and keep improving without being distracted by muscle pain or irritation.
What advice would you give to other athletes who are thinking about incorporating heat therapy for recovery into their training routine?
I realised far too late how important recovery is, especially in professional sport. Today I can say that I should have paid attention much earlier to avoiding major pain and, above all, injuries. Heat and cold therapy with Calopad is the perfect way to prevent or alleviate pain and recover quickly from injuries. With its circulation-promoting and anti-inflammatory effect, it is perfect for sports where there is an increased risk of injury.
Are there any additional benefits or aspects that you particularly appreciate about the Calopad device?
As it is small and easy to handle, I can take it with me everywhere and even wear it under my clothes without it being visible. As I travel a lot, it's my ideal companion for regeneration and relaxation on the go.
What goals and plans do you have for your future boxing career?
I'm currently world champion in the super welterweight division. And I want to stay that way. Of course, I want to develop further and therefore aim for the world title in other federations and weight classes.
